Grassholme is firmly established as one of the top ‘any method’ fisheries in the country, lying in the picturesque rolling pasture land of upper Teesdale.
With four miles of bank space and many inlets and bays, it offers a great variety of fishing. Grassholme also enjoys the luxury of its own local fish farm with some of the stocked fish tagged with cash prizes available. You can ‘loose feed’ and ground bait around the reservoir.
Grassholme is suitable for disabled anglers with a disabled platform close to the visitor centre.
For those who like to wander, the middle reaches of the reservoir offer some fantastic sport to fly and spinning methods.
On-site we have an excellent shop stocked with everything you need for a days fishing including rods, reels, tackle, accessories, clothing, worms, bait, ice creams and refreshments including hot and cold drinks.

Two rod permits – T&Cs apply and can be found when booking online. This permit allows an individual angler to fish with two rods.
Concessions permits – T&Cs apply and can be found when booking online. This permit applies to any angler at the age of 65 or over or who has a blue badge.
Couple’s permits – Discontinued.
T&C’s for all permits are shown when booking online. When you reach your catch you must stop fishing immediately.
Up to two children under 17 can fish free when one parent/guardian buys a standard day permit.
Parking charges are included in your fishing permit price.

Please note your EA rod licence must be purchased online at https://www.gov.uk/fishing-licences/buy-a-fishing-licence before fishing at one of our sites. Due to government changes we are no longer able to sell a rod licence at our Waterside Parks.
Important information for all anglers – Check, Clean, Dry!
Before coming to our reservoir site please check your clothing and equipment are free of all plants and animals, such as crayfish, mussels and shrimp. Invasive non-native species can seriously impact our fisheries by eating young fish, consuming food resources, carrying fish diseases and affecting water quality. Harmful invasive species can easily be spread to our sites on damp clothing and angling equipment.

These simple steps will help to prevent the spread of harmful invasive species into your fishery. Once introduced, invasive species are nearly impossible to remove, so we must all take steps to prevent their entry.
We have provided some useful location tips to help you catch. Our rangers are also very happy to assist you in choosing the best method, flies and baits for you to have a fantastic day fishing. Speak to them on your arrival in the shop or as they are working around the reservoir.
Easy access located on the south shore, incorporating excellent disabled facilities. Responds well to all methods.
Easy access with shallow and deep water and easy catching range. Responds well to all methods, great area for fly fishing.
Easy access responds well to both ledger and float fish baits and gives access to the shallower, middle reaches of the reservoir on the south shore which are ideal for the rolling fly angler.
Take the B6277 from Barnard Castle towards Mickleton.
Turn off at the western end of the village, sign posted Grassholme Reservoir.
The trout fishery is roughly a mile up the road on the right.
